Don’t just take our word for it, see what others have to say!

I reconnected with my brother in arms Ern after more than 10 years. Having followed his professional fighting career from overseas, I was happy and curious to receive his teachings at his newly opened gym.

With a lifetime spent practicing combat martial arts, I have been taught by senior masters in Hong Kong, Laos, Thailand and Canada. I belonged to 3 fight teams in Muay Thai and Boxing and spent years sparring and cornering fighters at the amateur and professional level.

Though I went to Resolve Martial Arts with the excitement to train with my brother, I never suspected I would be so blown away by the experience. Ern is a master of his craft, who has attained expression of self both in fighting and in teaching, which is extremely rare, especially for his age. Most of my masters being beyond their 60s at the time I started training under them, my standard of practice was always high.

On top of this, Ern has a passion for learning which keeps him modern in terms of the approaches chosen, constantly learning and adapting to the ever changing scene of mixed martial arts, muay thai, boxing, grappling, wrestling, strength and conditioning.

Add a bright smile and a generous heart to this intelligence, and you have a coach that prepares a handwritten, tailor-made workout for every person attending his training at every single session.

He knows how to pace the session between how much energy you bring on any given day and how to train you without hurting or exhausting you, pushing you beyond your limits, teaching technical skills that are immediately applicable to your path as a martial artist, focusing on one or two shortcomings per workout, and using the latest movement science to add a smart strength and conditioning portion. On top of this, there is a unique opportunity to have a sparring component in the session, with the safety, respect and energy that is so rare to find in martial arts schools worldwide.

I truly want to emphasize on that part, as I have been sparring in striking arts since age twelve and have often been confronted to gyms and masters with the wrong sparring culture, as well as the few who do it right.

Ern’s peaceful demeanor and smiling energy always help you feel happy and uplifted at every training. You will walk out having overcome yourself, constructively improved on a deficiency, acquired a new technique or drill, and happy and relaxed after every single class.

I give Ern the respect to have applied Bruce Lee’s teachings within our beautiful Hong Kong City, and to be delivering a martial arts education which encourages every being to find a simple yet efficient way to express themselves fully through this physical practice.

His gym is a true gem, as the location is beautiful and well situated in the heart of Wan Chai. I consider it a blessing to share the opportunity to train with him with my network and the patients of my osteopathy practice.

Don’t just take our word for it, see what others have to say!

I’m visiting from Seattle, where I box at least four times a week, and I didn’t want to give it up while on vacation. Fortunately, I found Resolve Martial Arts, and it exceeded all my expectations. This gym strikes the perfect balance between the upscale feel of Equinox and the authentic, gritty atmosphere of a real fight gym.

As a bit of a germaphobe, I’ve always been hesitant to box barefoot due to concerns about cleanliness. However, after attending classes nearly every day for a month, I was impressed by how seriously the owner takes hygiene. The floors are mopped and disinfected after each and every training session, and class sizes are kept small—ideally just one student, but no more than three at a time. By the third week, I was surprisingly comfortable boxing barefoot, something I never thought I’d be ok with.

I had the pleasure of training with Coach Hoka, Coach Ern, Coach King, and Coach Frankie, all of whom were outstanding. I primarily worked with Coach Ern and Coach King throughout the month. Each coach has serious competition experience, which aligns with my future goals in boxing. Their expertise was invaluable, and they tailored their training perfectly to my level and needs. They were also incredibly patient, especially when I didn’t follow instructions correctly due to my ADHD/GAD.

Even though I regularly box and have over 10 years of ballet training, the coaches managed to push me in ways that were both challenging and achievable. On top of that, their sense of humor made the workouts even more enjoyable—I even found myself skipping some of the breaks because I was having so much fun!

The gym is located in a vibrant neighborhood that reminds me a lot of Soho in New York. It’s lively, with plenty of restaurants offering diverse cuisines and boutique shops nearby. It’s the perfect area to grab a bite or do some shopping after a tough workout.

In short, if you’re serious about boxing but also enjoy a high-end gym experience, Resolve Martial Arts is a must-visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, I highly recommend it. This gym has set such a high standard that I now consider it my Hong Kong home gym. I’m so impressed that I plan to make annual trips to Hong Kong just because I love this gym so much. I may even reconsider my regular gym in Seattle because of it. I’ll definitely be stopping by the next time I’m in Hong Kong.
